With around half a million Filipinos that visited Thailand last year, Manila and Bangkok are working on ways to increase connectivity between the two countries.

Patsalin Swetarat, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the agency eyes to increase by 10 percent the number of Filipino tourists to Thailand.

She said TAT achieved its target of 16 percent increase of Filipino visitors to Thailand in 2019.

However, the Philippines ranks 11 out of 13 countries from the East Asian region.

TAT sees these figures to improve when Thai Lion Air starts to fly direct to Manila by midyear, Patsalin said.

According to Patsalin, the top three destinations frequented by Filipinos in Thailand are Bangkok, Pattaya and Chiang Mai.

“With the continued support and collaboration with our trade partners from airlines, travel agencies, tour operators and local government units, we are able to make sure that we can satisfy every Filipino traveler’s needs,” she added.

Patsalin said TAT is keen to put Thailand in the minds of Filipino travelers as one of the top countries to visit this 2020.

TAT is promoting other destinations in Thailand such as Chiang Rai, Ayutthaya and Phuket.
