Razon-led power distribution firm More Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) said Panay Electric Co. (PECO) has defied anew the Iloilo Regional Trial Court’s (RTC) gag order against the two companies and their officials and lawyers.

MORE Power said PECO lawyer Estrella Elamparo’s conduct of a press conference yesterday in Manila is in defiance of the gag order.

Iloilo City RTC Judge Emerald Requina-Contreras’ order dated March 2, 2020, also cited the lawyer’s allegation that the former had a meeting with MORE Power owner Enrique Razon Jr.

Over the weekend, MORE Power said it already secured control of Iloilo’s power distribution from PECO.

Roel Castro, MORE Power president and chief executive, explained that the takeover of PECO’s distribution assets is in line with the writ of possession issued by the Ilolilo City RTC as implemented by the Iloilo City Sheriff’s Office.

Castro assured the city’s residential and business customers of continuous power supply and said the company is deploying reaction teams 24/7 to address complaints from consumers amid the takeover.

As of March 1, among PECO’s distribution assets that were taken over are the Baldoza-La Paz substation (land including all machineries and improvements, buildings); General Luna substation (Meter Lab, Power Plant Building and Switchboard House); Tabuc Suba, Jaro substation (land, machinery); Bolilao, Mandurriao substation (land, buildings and machinery); and the Molo substation (land and buildings, machinery).
