Metro Manila water rates will increase starting next year with the approval of rate rebasing of the concessionaires, according to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System-Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO).
The concession agreement between the government and Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Co. Inc. allows rate rebasing every five years. The adjustments depend on the performance, expenses, earnings, unrecovered investments and service improvement plans of the water concessionaires.
In a statement yesterday, MWSS-RO said starting next year, Maynilad customers consuming an average of 10 cubic meters (cu. m.) per month or less, will pay P5.28 more in their monthly water bill. Those consuming 20 cu. m. per month will pay P20.29 more and those consuming 30 cu.m. per month will pay P41.71 more.
For Manila Water lifeline customers consuming an average of 10 cu.m. per month or less, the adjustment will translate to a decrease of P0.98 in their monthly water bill.
Regular Manila Waters customers consuming 10 cu. m. per month will pay P41.19 more while those who consume 20 cu. m. per month will pay P91.53 more. Those who use 30 cu.m. per month will see an increase of P187.01 in their bill.
“These rate adjustments will enable Manila Water and Maynilad to provide the highest quality of water, sanitation, and sewerage services that their customers deserve. These include the development of additional water sources that will ensure continuous improvements in the supply of safe drinking water as well as the expansion of environmentally safe wastewater services within the concession areas,” said Patrick Ty, MWSS-RO chief regulator, in a statement.
