Capiz fisherfolk reap benefits from Pilmico fish farm training

Earlier this year, beneficiaries of Aboitiz food business unit Pilmico’s Bangon Capiznon initiative reaped the benefits of technical assistance provided by Pilmico, following the onslaught of Typhoon Ursula in Capiz.

This aid has consistently helped them weather the challenges of COVID-19, allowing them to earn more and post better fish growth amid the health crisis.

Last February, the Pilmico Aqua Feeds team turned over 1.3 million bangus fry to help Capiz fishermen rebuild their typhoon-depleted fish stocks. Roxas City was one of the areas severely affected by the December 2019 Typhoon Ursula.

Capiz fishermen and fish cage owners were provided with technical knowledge to promote a better fish-growing environment.

Because of this technical assistance, the fishermen were able to secure additional earnings from February to October 2020. Compared to other brands, Pilmico’s aqua feeds facilitated faster and better growth, with an average of 15 to 20 days earlier harvesting time. The Bangon Capiznon beneficiaries were able to harvest 15 tons of fish or approximately 13,607 kilograms.

Aside from the training, Pilmico also provides consistent support through flexible feed payment terms, speeding up business recovery, and by helping close technical knowledge gaps in proper fish cage management and aqua feeds ratios.

Aboitiz unveils expansion plans for West Cebu Industrial Park

West Cebu Industrial Park (WCIP) hosts 11 locators from medium to heavy industries.

Cebu Industrial Park Developers, Inc. (CIPDI)–a joint venture between the Aboitiz Group and the Tsuneishi Group of Japan– is set to expand West Cebu Industrial Park (WCIP) to take advantage of strong demand from foreign and local locators for industrial spaces.

WCIP, strategically located in the industrial belt west side of Cebu, is currently a 540-hectare mixed-use development, anchored by a 283-hectare Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) registered zone that has complementary commercial, institutional, and residential components. It hosts 11 locators from medium to heavy industries, some of which are the biggest shipbuilding firms in the world, making Balamban the Shipbuilding Capital of the Philippines. It recently landed its third shipbuilding firm, Advanced Catamaran Composites.

With the proposed new development, WCIP is set to grow by an additional 30 hectares over the next three years, allowing for more industrial spaces, commercial centers, transport terminals, dormitories, and even leisure components for tourists. New locators and businesses that will be brought in are expected to yield up to 5,000 new jobs for the community.

The initial success of WCIP enabled the estate to grow from 202 to 540 hectares. More than 14,000 skilled workers are being employed by its industrial and commercial locators. The expansion hopes to continue WCIP’s growth story and turn Balamban into a vibrant city.

Ford PH goes virtual to celebrate Global Caring Month

Ford Philippines turned to virtual volunteer activities to celebrate Global Caring Month last September as part of its commitment to give back and support community service projects amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual social responsibility event sees thousands of Ford employees and dealer employees from around the world take time to participate in various community projects.

Ford employees served as virtual volunteers in different learning sessions under Gawad Kalinga’s (GK) Paraisong Pambata program that benefitted the kids from GK Diageo-Yolanda Village in Sta. Cruz, Laguna. Through video conferencing, the employee volunteers conducted activities such as storytelling, art and crafts making, board games, and tutorials to learn more about health and safety during the pandemic.

Two virtual learning sessions benefitted over 50 kids from the GK community. Aside from virtual volunteer activities, Ford employees also donated school and art supplies to the kids for their use in their online classes.

Ford PH CSR. To commemorate Ford Volunteer Corps’ 15 years of serving communities, Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford and Mary Culler, president, Ford Motor Company Fund recognized 15 global “All-Star” employee volunteers for their passion, leadership and commitment to volunteering.

One of the recipients of the prestigious recognition is Josephine Gonzalez, Government and Corporate Affairs Director, Ford Philippines. Gonzalez spearheaded Ford’s relationship with GK, American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) Philippines Foundation and other NGO partners, engaging employees and dealers as Ford Philippines’ Volunteer Corps to drive programs focused on four basic needs: accessible healthcare, community housing, clean water and meals for school children.

Ford Philippines has been recognized in recent years for its corporate social responsibility activities by AMCHAM Philippines, the U.S. Embassy and the Society of Philippine Motoring Journalists.
