Shell PH Exploration is Company of the Year

Shell Companies in the Philippines (SCiP) recently bagged seven Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards (APSA), most notably for its Shell Philippines Exploration B.V (SPEX) arm, which was named ‘Company of the Year’ under the Energy category at the International Business Awards (IBAs).

Also known as the “International Stevies,” the IBAs attract thousands of nominations from organizations–public and private, and for-profit and non-profit alike–across 63 nations.

The Gold Stevie Award in Innovative Management was given to Don Paulino, SPEX Managing Director and General Manager  who has been at the helm of the Malampaya project since 2016.

Shell received one gold, two silver, and four bronze awards across five of the eight total categories in the APSA.

Its Access-to-Energy project (A2E), which won them a Silver Stevie Award for Innovation in Community Relations or Public Service Communications.

Through one of its social development arms, the Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc. , Shell won the Bronze Award for Innovation in Non-profit/NGO Publications for its launch of the Mindoro TREASURES Teaching Reference for Environmental Awareness and Sustainable Use of Resources.

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp.  also won a Bronze Award for Corporate & Community – Customer Engagement Event for Shell Rimula’s Tsuperstar, a campaign that sheds lights on jeepney drivers’ hard work.

 SPEX won a Bronze Award for Innovation in Community Relations or Public Service Communications for its information, education, and communication (IEC) campaign, which aimed to prepare coastal communities for an upcoming subsea maintenance activity. Shell won bronze award in the same category for the supporting communication campaign to deliver Malampaya’s successful scheduled maintenance shutdown in 2019.


BAYO shifts to fashionable, functional PPE-inspired clothing

BAYO works with the handweavers of social enterprise Ambension.

Power Fashion Inc. (PFI) BAYO has stopped manufacturing its regular merchandise and instead shifted to designing fashionable and functional personal protective equipment- inspired wardrobes. It has also strengthened its online presence.

When Taal volcano erupted at the beginning of the year, the company stopped production for a week to focus on manufacturing masks which later became REwear using the finest material, handmade by local fashion makers.

In March , BAYO opened its manufacturing facility to assist in the preparation of PPE coveralls for the programs of the Office of the Vice President. This led BAYO to pivot its business in dedicating its services to help in providing masks and PPEs.

Bayo Foundation also mobilized livelihood programs in partnership with the Pasig City government for the provision of sewing projects to the city’s skilled sewers.

Bayo Foundation continues working with the hand weavers of Ambension–a social enterprise located inside the Enchanted farm of the Gawad Kalinga community in Bulacan.  The foundation is set to buy all the produced hand-woven fabrics for the development of the brands’ upcoming collections (Bayo, Unica, and Viseversa).

The company is working on the completion of 150,000 facemasks for aBPI employees nationwide, and to supply the company uniforms of China Savings Bank employees.

Former Taliptip residents set to complete TESDA training

Former Taliptip residents trainees are looking to graduate very soon from the pilot skills training batch under the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) even as San Miguel Corp. vows to open the program to more Bulacan residents in the coming months.

The TESDA courses include the heavy equipment/hydraulic excavator course, shielded metal arc welding, electrical installation and maintenance, dressmaking, and cookery.

The pilot batch will undergo up to 20 days of training in their chosen courses and three  days of entrepreneurship training. Those who will opt for self-employment and set up their own business will be given tool kits like welding machines, sewing machines, and other equipment.Once they complete the training programs, students will undergo the TESDA skills assessment test before National Certificates or NCII are awarded. Graduates of heavy equipment/hydraulic excavator course, electrical installation and maintenance, and shielded metal arc welding courses will be referred to SMC Aerocity, SMC’s company under SMC Infrastructure that handles the airport development.

The initial 60 students mostly came from the 277 families that include former fishpond caretakers or workers who were living in houses on stilts at the coastal areas of Taliptip.


Manulife launches HealthFlex

Manulife Philippines has launched its newest product HealthFlex, an innovative and accessible life and health insurance solution, the first and only one in the market to provide customers the flexibility to select the right critical illness protection for them and enhance the scope of coverage by adding benefits of their choice. Manulife HealthFlex  covers customers from age 0-70.

Customers can choose which types of illness they prefer to be covered by the plan’s advanced critical illness benefit.

Those availing HealthFlex may also receive guaranteed death or maturity benefits, and long life bonus through dividends. Premiums will be waived if the insured is diagnosed with a covered early stage or advanced critical illness.

HealthFlex is payable in five years, 10 years, or up to age 60. A 30-year-old male can obtain P300,000 HealthFlex coverage for as low as P10,372 yearly premiums.

PH joins CIIE

 The Philippines is looking to tap the growing demand for tropical food in the Chinese market with its upcoming participation in the third China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2020 from November  5 to 10   at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, Shanghai, China.

Forty Philippine food brands and agricultural produce will be featured in the Philippine pavilion  from tropical fruits and vegetables, processed fruits and nuts, healthy snacks, seafood and marine products, and other premium food selections.

Chocolates and other cacao-based products are also included in the selection.


World Vision convenes business leaders

World Vision tackled the value of doing corporate social responsibility amid the pandemic at a two-day virtual summit, participated by top business leaders in the Philippines.

Speakers shared  how they have chosen to help their internal and external stakeholders despite the health and economic crisis. They also discussed the state of the pandemic’s socio-economic effect on the country and the various efforts of the public-private sector in alleviating this.

The conference themed  “Doing Good is Good Business” also tackled how CSR affects brand positioning and awareness, and how to successfully engage the employees, customers, and other stakeholders.

The summit also centered on how CSR activities and programs can help create a good brand and how companies can foster a good relationship with its internal stakeholders led by its employees.

McDonald’s frontliners get free COVID testing

Close to 20,000 McDonald’s restaurant crew and managers will benefit from free COVID-19 tests as part of the government’s expanded testing program, which covers workers in the food retail industry and other economy workers.

McDonald’s testing for its employees was formally launched October 16, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The free testing covers employees from McDonald’s own and franchised stores within the National Capital Region. The company’s frontliners will be swabbed at the mega swabbing facilities in Palacio de Maynila and Lakeshore Taguig.

Residents in Pasig City and the province of Rizal will also benefit from the said five-day testing operations until October 20 at the Ynares Gym. The booths will then be turned over to the city government of Pasig for its use in testing its residents.


Honda set to unveil All-New City

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) is set to release the all-new Honda City in the Philippine market on October 22 as part of its month-long 30th anniversary celebration.
