BPI reaps accolades

Asian Banking & Finance (ABF), The Asset, and Alpha Southeast Asia recently recognized the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) for its milestone achievements and consistent, strong performance in the capital and global markets.

ABF cited BPI’s CHF 100-million two-year Asean Green Bond issuance as the Debt Deal of the Year — Philippines.

BPI was also honored for its role in Globe Telecom’s Acquisition of EC Pay as the Mergers and Acquisitions Deal of the Year — Philippines.

The bank, through BPI Capital Corp., also brought home an award for Green Project of the Year from The Asset Triple A Asia Infrastructure Awards 2020, with their exemplary handing of AC Energy Finance International’s $400-million CBI-certified Climate Bonds.

The finance publication also named BPI as the Best FX Bank in the Philippines in the ABF Wholesale Banking Awards 2020.

BPI’s performance in global markets garnered another three awards from Alpha Southeast Asia, the oldest institutional investment magazine in the Southeast Asian region, during its 10th Treasury and FX Awards cycle.

The bank was named as the region’s Best FX Bank for Retail Clients.

Alpha Southeast Asia named BPI as the region’s Best FX Bank for Corporates and Financial Institutions, citing the bank’s exceptional ability to match/balance corporate and commercial FX inflows and outflows, which allow it to offer competitive pricing for clients and be less dependent on the proprietary market.

BPI has also received the title of Best FX Bank for Corporates, FIs & SMEs: Cross Currency Swap (CCS), Interest Rate Swap (IRS), Forwards & Options Hedging, for its customized and innovative hedging solutions that help clients manage risks and optimize returns, in addition to competitively-priced treasury products and services.


Christmas shopping in the new normal

Proponents of the #PinasMunaTayo campaign are appealing to  consumers to use their money wisely and support the campaign and local businesses by spending their holiday celebrations domestically this Christmas.

In June, private sector groups Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Alliance Global Group, Inc., and Resorts World Manila, along with several government agencies  launched the online movement in three campaign components include, TriPinas to revive the tourism sector by promoting domestic tourism and destinations, ShoPinas to push for buying locally in support to the retail sector, and LasaPinas to reinforce the love for country by experiencing local food and hospitality.

The official social media accounts of #PinasMunaTayo have amassed more than 7 million reach and engagement since launch.


Ateneo SALT  trains PSHS teachers

Ateneo de Manila University through the Ateneo de Manila Institute for the Science and Art of Learning and Teaching (or the Ateneo SALT Institute) has been requested to train over 500 educators of the Philippine Science High School System through its Adaptive Design for Learning (ADL) Professional Certificate Course.

Adaptive Design for Learning is Ateneo de Manila’s unique framework for online course design customized to respond to the contexts of schools and universities in the country. The ADL Professional Certificate Course, which over 2000 educators from the Jesuit network of schools and universities in the country had completed last summer, is an asynchronous project-based program designed to guide educators committed to learning how to design and promote engaging and effective online learning.

The program, launched last September 21 to run for three months, will be conducted for teachers from the various campuses of the PSHS System nationwide, to equip them with the necessary competence to design and conduct online classes. Five online classes have been opened to conduct and deliver the six-module ADL course to the participants from PSHS through a team of professional trainers.

Ateneo de Manila  agreed to subsidize 65 percent of the cost of this nationwide training. The subsidy was made possible by Ateneo SALT Institute’s two endowment funds: The VTL Teacher Education Endowment Fund and the RBA Scholarship Fund for the Education of Public School Teachers.

Security bank cements better banking promise despite crisis

The pandemic has caught the world off guard with many businesses having to quickly adapt to a new reality just to survive.

Maynilad provides aid to DepEd for school opening

Maynilad Water Services Inc. took part in the Brigada Eskwela 2020 program of the Department of Education (DepEd) by donating sanitation supplies and refurbished computers to 14 public school districts in the West Concession area.

Maynilad donated 10 refurbished desktop computers to Ramon Magsaysay High School in Manila, to be used by the teachers as they conduct classes through distance learning.

Fifteen computer tablets were also turned over to the Schools Division Office of Caloocan City to be distributed to indigent students.

In addition, the water company distributed more than 1,878 one-gallon bottles of liquid hand soaps and disinfectants, and over 4,800 washable face masks to various schools.


Pepsi PH enters e-commerce biz

Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc. (PCPPI), the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country, is entering the electronic commerce business by allowing online orders for in-home deliveries starting October 5, aiming to strengthen connections with its target consumers.

PCPPI is piloting its  website, pepsiproducts.ph, in select areas including Paranaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa for Metro Manila and in San Pedro and Binan, Laguna, and Carmona, Cavite. The website features options for retail purchase.

To ensure seamless transactions, the company hired separate administrative and delivery personnel whose work will only be focused on processing e-commerce orders.

PCPPI is targeting to expand its service area covering different parts of the country in the coming weeks.


Ortigas Land mounts community markets

Ortigas Land is rolling out the Ortigas Community Market in its estates Capitol Commons and Ortigas East in Pasig City, Circulo Verde in Quezon City, and Greenhills in San Juan City.

The series of weekend markets in Capitol Commons, Ortigas East, Circulo Verde, and Greenhills brings nutritious food, locally sourced products, closer to the residents of Metro Manila.

For the initial run of its community market, Ortigas Land focused on helping farmer communities, small businesses, and local merchants to conveniently sell their farm fresh produce and other quality products in its estates in Pasig, Quezon City, and San Juan.
