Security Bank, 88Tuition tie–up keyed access to world-class learning
Singapore based e-learning platform 88Tuition’s partnership with Security Bank has led to an increase of users of the platform, especially in the Philippines.
From March 30 to June 30, a total of 2,615 parents started using 88Tuition’s e-learning platform, wherein 69 percent of children enrolled accessed primary level topics while 22 percent accessed the secondary level.
Users were given free access to 88Tuition’s comprehensive library of educational materials and online classes created by some of the best teachers in Singapore. The online lessons were designed to simulate a normal class routine and provided homework that parents could access as well.
About 86% of the users watched 50 videos at the most, while the remaining 14% watched more than 50 videos ranging from different subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, and Chinese language education. Some parents watched over 400 videos and were satisfied with the effectiveness of the learning platform.
The e-learning platform reported a total of 1,000 assessments over the course of the free access period.
The partnership of Security Bank and 88Tuition ran for three months from March to June this year.
Aboitiz Group ramps up COVID-19 response in Cebu
The Aboitiz Group has extended much-needed assistance to Cebu’s frontliners in public hospitals and quarantine facilities as the city grapples with the dreaded Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease.
Aboitiz has so far contributed around P25 million in various Covid-19 response initiatives. These include distribution of food packs and meal assistance, protective personal equipment (PPE), tents, and financial assistance to the frontliners in several hospitals and quarantine facilities around the city.
Through its corporate social responsibility arm Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. and its Cebu-based business units led by power distribution company Visayan Electric Company, Inc. (Visayan Electric), Aboitiz provided three meals a day for several weeks to about 1,500 frontline workers in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) and Cebu City Quarantine Center (CCQC), as well as nine other private hospitals.
A few weeks ago, AboitizPower Distribution Utilities senior vice president and chief operating officer Anton Mari Perdices led the turnover of 100,000 surgical masks and over 10,000 coveralls to VSMMC and 200,000 surgical masks to the CCQC and the New Normal Oasis for Adaptation and a Home (NOAH) Complex in Cebu City in partnership with PT Bayan Resources.
Western Union expands in PH with Cebuana Lhuillier
Western Union and Cebuana Lhuillier have come together to enable customers in the Philippines to send and receive Western Union money transfers.
The collaboration with Cebuana Lhuillier adds 2,500 more locations to Western Union’s global network and will provide greater access to customers in the world’s fourth largest remittance receiving country. Money transfer customers accessing Cebuana Lhuillier’s nationwide branch network can send or receive money via Western Union’s global network in more than 200 countries and territories. The services are expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.

PLDT ramps up its Infoteach Outreach Program
PLDT, through its Infoteach Outreach Program, is conducting a webinar series called “Gearing up for the New Normal in Teaching and Learning.”
The webinar series recently kicked off with the topic “Preparing your course for online delivery,” and was attended by almost 15,000 registered participants which included teachers and students selected by PLDT in coordination with the Department of Education (DepED) Schools Division Superintendents. The program’s long-time partner UP Open University (UPOU) provided the learning modules. The session was also extended to the public through the UPOU Networks’ Facebook Live and YouTube streams, with peak views reaching over 8,000 individuals.
” Amid the pandemic, we continue to empower our teachers and students by providing them with digital capabilities. Our webinar series aims to equip them for a smoother transition to a blended learning set-up,” said PLDT Public Affairs head Ramon Isberto.
“Through the webinar series, we advocate the culture of sharing. We become architects as we design our own modules. Through this, we enable our fellow teachers to learn from our best teaching and learning practices,” said UPOU Chancellor Dr. Melinda Bandelaria during the first session.
There are several topics educators can watch out for, including assessment of online engagement tools (August 7) and supporting online learners (August 10). Students will be given an online course on preparing to be an online learner (August 5), while parents will be offered a special webinar on how to support their children as online learners (August 18). There will also be a webinar session on cybersecurity open to the general public (August 14), led by PLDT chief Information and security officer Angel Redoble.
Recognizing the vital role that the local government units play in supporting the education sector’s transition to digital learning, PLDT will also hold a special webinar session for them on August 12.
Araneta City remains open under MECQ
Araneta City continues its business operations in accordance with the re-implementation of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila taking effect from August 4 to 18.
Gateway Mall, Ali Mall, and Farmers Plaza remain open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to cater to the needs of customers.
Foodcourts in all malls, Dampa in Farmers Market, as well as restaurants and fast-food chains, are still open and are limited to take-out and delivery transactions.
The operations of Beep Jeep, P2P Ube Express, and public utility jeepneys going to and from Araneta City are temporarily suspended in compliance with the guidelines imposed under the new MECQ status of Metro Manila. MRT3 and LRT2 stations are also closed within the indicated period.
Farmers Market and Farmers Garden, however, will continue with its normal business operations.
Shoppers and patrons are still requested to follow the implemented social distancing measures in all Araneta City properties.
