Bloomberry foundation sponsors new hospital
Bloomberry Cultural Foundation Inc. (BCFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of Solaire Resort and Casino, is sponsoring the construction of the first hospital in San Andres, Quezon.
To rise in Sitio Yuyuan, Barangay Camflora, the 25-bed-capacity hospital will have isolation rooms, semi-private rooms, six-bed wards and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). It will also have four emergency rooms, two operating/delivery rooms and provisions for consultation rooms and out-patient consultation rooms. Construction is expected to be completed in a year.
At the groundbreaking ceremony held last January 15, Filipina Laurena, BCFI executive director, said: “In partnership with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR), we seek to help the local government of San Andres to address the need for an affordable, accessible and adequate medical health facility for its seven barangays and for nearby contiguous towns as well.” San Andres has an estimated population of more than 36,000.
The full-service hospital nearest to San Andres is in Lucena, about 184 kilometers away or a land drive of four hours.
The project is one of the public-private-partnership projects of BCFI and PAGCOR, which have been jointly undertaking projects in recent years covering three development pillars — environment and health, education and cultural heritage.

KFC cuts carbon footprint further in e-bikes for delivery program
Quick-Service Restaurant KFC has moved to further reduce the company’s carbon footprint with the rollout of its pioneering e-bike (electric bike) fleet for food delivery in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
Several units of the eco-friendly e-bikes have been deployed last year, with 72 more set to be dispatched to service KFC stores in Metro Manila and its peripheries.
“This is a trailblazing initiative for KFC and reflects our continuing pursuit for more ways to contribute to the global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and address climate change,” KFC Philippines chief operations officer Jojo Marcelo said.
“The e-bike fleet is part of KFC’s response to the clamor for the private sector to escalate the green movement, which gives primary consideration to the environment in all aspects of the business, from production to consumption. It is also our way of addressing the growing need for sustainable food delivery service in this New Normal when mobility is restricted and people are staying indoors even while working or studying,” Marcelo added.
KFC now prides itself as the first quick-service restaurant in the country to utilize e-bikes for eco-friendly delivery.
Shell’s Bitumen FreshAir can cover infra projects in entire Luzon, Viz-Min
Pilipinas Shell has officially launched Bitumen FreshAir, the environment-friendly asphalt product developed to reduce air quality impact in the construction of bridges, highways, racetracks, roads, bridges, and runways. A total of 17 million kilograms of Shell’s Bitumen can cover various local infrastructure projects all over Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, enhancing the air quality for motorists and passengers as they travel.
The product has earned the nod of the Department of Public Works and Highway’s (DPWH) Assistant Director, Bureau of Research and Standards Engr. Reynaldo Faustino, as the earth-friendly bitumen product complies with DPWH’s standard regulations.
“We’re looking to lock in deals with ecotourism destinations just like Bohol where stringent policies in protecting the environment are in place. We are confident that we can cover infrastructure projects in the whole Visayas, Mindanao, and even Luzon with the 17-million kilograms of Bitumen FreshAir that our plants based in Batangas and Mindanao are currently sheltering,” Canedo said.
The use of Bitumen FreshAir has a similar impact on the reduction of nitrogen equivalent to removing an average of 40 cars per kilometer of asphalt laid per year says Shell Bitumen Philippines Technical Manager Janet Marcellana.
Dir. Faustino added that the DPWH encourages stakeholders in the construction industry to “consider the use of environment-friendly construction materials to create a more sustainable tomorrow.”
“Shell is a responsible company that is always looking forward to making solutions that will benefit mankind and the environment. In the years to come, we can assure you that we will remain committed in providing solutions to the ever-changing needs of the world,” said Jeyan Vasudevan, Regional Technology Manager for Asia, Shell Specialties Business.
