Marcos attends World Expo 2025 in Osaka

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arrived in Osaka, Japan on Thursday to attend the World Exposition 2025.

The Presidential Communications Office said Marcos’ private plane landed in Osaka at 6:05 pm. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro earlier in the day said Marcos left with a small delegation and would be back in Manila this weekend.

Marcos has designated Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III, and Education Secretary Sonny Angara as members of the caretaker committee while he is out of the country.

Castro said apart from attending the expo, where the Philippines has its own pavilion, the “working visit” of the president includes meetings with businessmen and investors from Japan and the Filipino community.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque said the other day that the president would make a pitch for semiconductor and shipping companies to invest in the Philippines during his June 19 to 22 visit to Japan.

Roque said apart from following up on the commitments from Japanese investors, Marcos would also meet business executives from South Korea, while First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who accompanied the president, would visit the pavilions featuring Filipino designers Carlo Calma and Kenneth Cobonpue.
