Malaysia’s industry leader Farm Fresh Berhad through its Philippine subsidiary Farm Fresh Inc. eyes the  establishment of a dairy farm with a herd of 3,000 cows

The National Dairy Authority (NDA) said this was expressed by officials of Farm Fresh  in a meeting recently.

The agency said the Malaysian firm is keen on securing at least 200 hectares of land in the southern part of Luzon due to the cooler climate.

Farm Fresh currently operates five dairy farms in Malaysia and one in Australia. The company also oversees two processing facilities in Malaysia and one in Australia.

Last June, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ,  concurrent Department of Agriculture secretary, met with Farm Fresh Berhad’s executives during his state visit to Malaysia.

The meeting resulted in the company’s pledge to pursue a $20-million investment, primarily focused on cattle breeding for milk production.

Based on data from the NDA, local production of milk in the country went up 15 percent last year to 30.28 million kilograms (kg) from 2021’s 26.3 million kg., attributed to the higher volume of dairy animal herd.

Bulk of the country’s milk and dairy products supply are from imports, reaching 595.64 million kg in 2022, a 13.6 percent growth from 2021’s 523.95 million kg.
