THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) yesterday issued special permits to more than 1,000 buses to accommodate the anticipated travel surge during the Lenten period.
In a statement dated April 9, Teofilo Guadiz III LTFRB chairperson said a total of 1,018 special permits have been issued as of April 8 to augment the supply of provincial buses during the peak travel period.
The special permits are valid from April 11 to 27, covering the Holy Week and the days immediately after.
Random inspection
In addition, Guadiz said the LTFRB began on Monday, April 7, the random inspections of public utility vehicles (PUVs) and transport terminals, checking the validity of operators’ documents including permits, fare matrices, vehicle markings, and safety accessories.
The inspection will continue throughout the travel rush, he added.
“We remind passengers this Holy Week to plan ahead. Check the travel schedules and make sure that tickets and other necessary documents are in order,” Guadiz said originally in Tagalog.
The LTFRB will also monitor private terminals starting April 11 to ensure the presence of help desks and sufficient personnel to assist passengers.
Aside from enforcement efforts, Guadiz warned the public against using unregistered vehicles, which pose safety risks.
Face masks, alcohol
He also reminded passengers to continue practicing basic health precautions during their trips, even if face masks are no longer required.
He encouraged travelers to carry hygiene kits, alcohol, and face masks for protection, especially in crowded areas.
The LTFRB said it is ready to respond to public concerns and urged passengers to report any complaints through its 24/7 hotline at 1342 and official Facebook page.
