The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said restoration work will soon begin on Boracay’s Wetland No. 6 after it was recovered from illegal occupants.

The DENR said the 8.5-hectare wetland which is also known as Dead Forest will now be restored since the 31 families belonging to the Tumandok tribe occupying the area will now be transferred to lands awarded to them by the government.

DENR director Natividad Bernardino, who also serves as general manager of the Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation Management Group, said thiswill also pave the way for the original settlers of the island to get their rightful share of lands in the area.
