GLOBE Telecom Inc. has secured approval from Light Rail Transit Administration (LRTA) to start installation of several cell sites along the stretch of Light Rail Transit line 2 (LRT2) from  Santolan Station in Quezon City  to Recto Station in Manila during modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila.

With Globe cell sites along the route, commuters can expect better network coverage while they move from one station to another.

“With LRMC support and trust, we are doing our best to give our commuting public a better experience when they return and ride the Megatren once again,” said Ernest Cu, Globe president and chief executive officer.

The LRT 2 line or Megatren is a rapid transit line in Metro Manila that has 11 stations serving at least 180,000 to 240,000 commuters a day before the implementation of the ECQ.  The Megatren covers at least 17 kilometers from Santolan to Recto with two more additional stations in the works — Masinag and Emerald — for its expansion.

Meanwhile, Smart Communications Inc.  yesterday said it reopened stores to serve customers in select areas under general community quarantine.

In compliance with the Department of Health guidelines, Smart customers and employees in the store will be required to wear masks and to have their temperatures checked prior to entry.

Smart Stores under the new normal encourage the use of cashless transactions and self-care kiosks, to help prevent the spread of the virus.

“By opening our stores, we hope not only to address customer concerns but also to help stir economic activity to help our country recover from the effects of COVID-19,” Jane Basas, Smart SVP and head of consumer wireless business.
