A fare increase for passengers of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) will take effect on April 2, 2025, the Department of Transportation said yesterday.
The new fare for single-journey tickets ranges from P20 to P55 per passenger on end-to-end stations, from Dr. Santos station in Sucat, Paranaque City to Fernando Poe Jr. station, formerly Roosevelt station.
Stored value ticket ranges from P16 to P52 per passenger for end-to-end stations.
The LRT-1 boarding fare will be priced at P16.25 with a distance fare of P1.47 per kilometer, based on the decision of DOTr’s Rail Regulatory Unit (RRU),
The Light Rail Manila Corp. private operator of LRT-1 said on Tuesday that the newly approved fare scheme was lower than the 2024 rates sought by LRMC.
This is the second time LRMC has been granted its proposed fare adjustment during the last 10 years, even with its recent opening of the Cavite Extension.
LRMC said: “Public transport is a service that requires continuous investment in maintenance, upgrades, and expansion. Countries with world-class transport systems such as Singapore and Japan adjust fares regularly to keep services efficient and safe.”
LRMC has since introduced new trains, station upgrades and better service efficiency.
In November 2024, LRMC completed Phase 1 of the Cavite Extension Project and opened it for commercial operations, LRMC President and CEO Enrico Benipayo said.
“LRMC has always achieved 100 percent of its monthly reliability, punctuality, and system availability performance indicators. The cycle time (the total time it takes for a complete roundtrip) has significantly improved since 2015 from 106 minutes upon the takeover of LRMC to 91 minutes in 2024,” Benipayo added.
