The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said it is preparing for the implementation of a single ticketing system in Metro Manila on May 2.
Jay Art Tugade, LTO assistant secretary, said at the Laging Handa public briefing, part of the preparation is providing an interconnectivity system where local government units and authorized agencies will be connected to a unified system.
This new scheme will allow efficient traffic management in Metro Manila, according to Tugade.
Under this new scheme, a traffic violation can be strictly monitored as it will be recorded on the LTO’s Land Transportation Management System database.
The LTO is also evaluating the policies on the requirement for the medical examination, driving exam, and insurance among others.
LTO has scrapped the periodic medical examination (PME) requirements for holders of driver’s licenses with either 5-year or 10-year validity following the amendments of LTO Memorandum Circular 2021-2285 or the “Supplemental Implementing Rules and Regulations” of Republic Act 10930.
Tugade said under the amended circular, the mandatory medical examination will now be a requirement only before applying for, and during the renewal, of a driver’s license.
