The government is grooming the Leyte Ecological Industrial Zone (LEIZ) as the first ecological industrial zone in the country.
The Board of Investments (BOI) in a statement said LEIZ will host clusters of copper and copper-related industries based on the Master Development Plan (MDP) crafted by theCopper National Technical Working Group.
The LEIZ MDP project is one of the possible measures to bridge the gap in the local copper value chain and propel the full integration of the industry from mining to downstream processing as envisioned in the Copper Industry Roadmap.
The roadmap vows to follow the principles of circular economy and ecological industrial parks in developing LEIZ.
LEIZ MDP Project, launched in 2020, proposes the development of an estimated 1,000-hectare land in Leyte. It is anchored on the existing copper smelting operation of Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corp. located in the Leyte Industrial Development Zone in Isabel, Leyte. Irma Isip
