Globe Telecom Inc. urged the government to invest in digital connectivity and information and communications technology (ICT) to help address the digital gap in the country.
Emmanuel Estrada, Globe vice president for regulatory development and strategy, said addressing the digital gap is not the job of the private sector alone, noting the need for the government and communities to lay a greater stake in achieving the country’s digitalization targets, as laid down in the government-led Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028.
“We believe that given high infrastructure cost, the need for policy reform, and digital literacy, bridging the digital divide is not just the job of the private sector alone. It needs to be a whole-of-nation approach, where the government, society and private sector work together. If we don’t do it together, we can’t bridge this gap at all,” Estrada said in a recent speech as quoted by a Globe press statement.
