The Department of Transportation (DOTr) yesterday said maintenance and infrastructure improvements and facility expansions in at least 18 airports and 20 seaports are set to be completed either by June or before the second state of the nation address (SONA) of President Marcos Jr. in July.
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista updated the President and several Cabinet members yesterday in Malacanang on the status of aviation, maritime railway and road network projects being undertaken by the agency.
“We are looking at completing airport maintenance, around 18 airports in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao…the projects will be completed by June. We also reported ports that will be completed before June, around 20 of these. And, of course, road sector projects, which will include the construction of the bike lanes and there are more projects,” Bautista said in a media briefing after the Cabinet sectoral meeting with Marcos.
Bautista said the DOTr also updated the President on the finalization of contract packages for the construction and maintenance of railway projects such as the North-South Commuter Railway and the Metro Manila Subway.
He said the Metro Rail Transit 7 (MRT-7) project is expected to be completed by June 2025, while the and the Light Rail Transit -1 (LRT-1) extension from Baclaran to Sucat will be finished by 2024.
