President Marcos Jr. has approved the expansion of the West Cebu Industrial Park-Special Economic Zone in Balamban, Cebu, which has been extended by more than 10 hectares.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, on the authority of the President, issued Proclamation Order No. 710 on October 16 that included 176,783 sq.m. of land in barangays Arpili and Buanoy in Balamban into the industrial park.
The expansion was upon the recommendations of the board of directors of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
PEZA, in September, said the expansion of the special economic zone is necessary to accommodate new locator companies that are planning to put up their businesses at the Western Cebu Industrial Park.
At least 14,000 jobs are expected to be generated from the operation of the new companies.
The Western Cebu economic zone currently hosts 23 locators and employs around 13,935 workers.
