The Information Technology Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) is gearing up for its roadmap 2028 this early, taking into account the hybrid work format as a baseline in setting its goals
“We are already thinking of our roadmap to 2028…looking at what are the next big things for our industry. Being given an early start, what do we need to account for, and what do we need to execute against what kind of interventions are needed,” said Rey Untal, IBPAP president, in an August 4 podcast.
Untal said companies will execute their business plans differently and scouting for sites and talents will consider a mix of on-site and off-site execution of services.
Untal sees the need to establish, along with real estate developers, community -based districts under a “reimagined setup from a workplace and geographic strategy standpoint.”
“Physical geographies are no longer there. The hiring radius has become a feature of the internet capability that is accessible to individuals. So if previously we had to physically set up offices in remote locations, that …is no longer needed,” Untal said.
The pandemic has created a new baseline for the IT-BPM industry, where companies are able to deliver services on a combination of remote and on-site operations.
“There will be things that are more strategic in nature and will require a lot more heavy lifting for many of us. The new baseline has been set. If you are not yet in that new baseline coming from an infrastructure and human capital standpoint, then there’s severe worry on the viability of your business moving forward,” Untal said.
He said the community based districts will allow companies get better access to talent from the countryside and even outside the country more strategically.
With the concession of being able to keep their ecozone locator status even if they operate outside these designated zones about to expire next month, IT-BPM companies are looking at a longer term cure, “a policy that is truly reflective of the needs of the times. “
At present, industry operates at 65:35 or 70:30 in favor of work-from-home.
“We’re working closely with government to jointly figure out an arrangement that will allow us to sustain this model that we are espousing currently and we anticipate will continue to be the norm,” Untal said.
