The Philippine Chamber and Commerce and Industry (PCCI) yesterday said House Speaker Martin Romualdez has committed to enact within the next three years five to 10 of the 16 measures the group has outlined for Congress to consider.
PCCI said the top five measures that Romualdez committed to pass are the two tax reform measures simply because they are low-hanging; agrarian reform amendment, Open Access in Data Transmission Act and; MSME Act amendment
The two tax reform packages will strengthen the country’s fiscal sustainability to continue and accelerate economic and social development projects: Package 3 (Property Valuation and Assessment) and Package 4 (Passive Income and Financial Intermediation Act) of the Comprehensive Tax Reform Program and Capital Market Development.
The third measure is one that could provide livelihood in the rural areas, and reduce poverty: Successful Farmers Development Act (Amending the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law.
PCCI president George Barcelon said Romualdez assured the group the business sector will be consulted in crafting laws related to trade and commerce.
He said the House of Representatives had should pursue the enactment of business-friendly measures crucial to recovery efforts, jobs creation and the long-term progress of the economy.
In a dialogue with Romualdez recently, PCCI presented the list of 16 measures to strengthen the country’s fiscal sustainability to continue and accelerate economic and social development projects.
The other measures being pushed : Tree-Growing Act and; Amendment or Repeal of the ASIN Act; Philippine Warehouse Receipts Act Amendment; ; Better Internet Act; Rural Wired Development Act;Satellite-based Technologies Promotion Act;Philippine Spectrum Management Act; International Maritime Trade Act; Philippine Ports Authority Act Amendment; Philippine Qualification Act Amendment and; Apprenticeship Act/ Amendment to the Dual Training System Act. – Irma Isip
