Holcim focuses on road safety

Holcim Philippines has strengthened its road safety training program for their drivers and has improved their digitalization system for better performance of fleets and safety of drivers.

Since 2015, 907 drivers of transporters working with the company have completed the safe driving course.

The company’s focus on road safety is part of an overall effort to have excellent logistics operations. The program requires transporters to meet strict standards for roadworthiness and maintenance for trucks. Holcim Philippines also conducts route assessments to identify hazards and advises drivers on precautionary measures.

Holcim Philippines has introduced digitalization to drive improvements. The performance of fleets and drivers is tracked through In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS), a device that measures driving behavior, such as speeding, harsh braking, and fatigue. Information from IVMS is fed into the company’s Transport Analytics Centre (TAC), which crunches the numbers to optimize routes for improvements in safety, customer service, and efficiency.

The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) is one of the vital medical institutions in Metro Manila, and is the largest COVID-19 referral hospital in the country. Last May 15, a fire ravaged sections of the hospital leaving disadvantaged patients, including newborns, displaced and in dire need of help.

Alliance PNB bike racks installed in Manila

Allianz PNB Life and Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso inaugurated recently bike racks designed to evoke memories of growing up in Manila.

Crafted to encourage a culture of cycling among Filipinos and to stir local tourism, each bike rack was creatively designed to reflect the place for which it will be installed.

The bike rack art installations were launched during the country’s commemoration of the “Araw ng Watawat” (Flag Day) at the Kartilya ng Katipunan, where one of the bike racks is located.

The event also marked the beginning of the celebration of the 450th founding anniversary of the City of Manila. Simultaneous inaugurations were also held in other locations of the bike racks such as  Rajah Sulayman Park, Roxas Boulevard for the Alon bike rack;  Plaza Roma, Intramuros for the Kalesa bike rack and; Liwasang Bonifacio, Ermita for the Maya bike rack.

Allianz also donated personal and health insurance to 500 city hall employees and frontliners of Manila. These included personnel under the Office of the Mayor who are directly on the frontlines taking care of the districts. They received accidental death, dismemberment, and disability benefits and a coverage of up to P 100,000.

Airspeed embraces digital tech 

Airspeed had adapted modern digital technology to serve and satisfy the logistics needs of the modern generation.

DPWH fast tracks addisolation facility, hospital in Zamboanga

The Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) is ramping up the on-going construction of additional isolation facility to accommodate soaring of COVID-19 cases in Zamboanga City with construction of off-site modular hospital and pop-up dormitory for health workers to start this June.

DPWH Secretary and Isolation Czar Mark A. Villar said the on-going conversion of the old Zamboanga Convention Center in Pasonanca, Zamboanga City will provide additional isolation/quarantine facility for treatment of asymptomatic and moderate COVID-19 patients.

The isolation facility with 182 beds can provide flex space for hospitals to discharge non-emergency COVID cases, freeing hospital beds in Zamboanga City for more severe and critical patients.

Meanwhile, the proposed construction of modular hospital with 22 beds for moderate, severe to critical covid patients inside Mindanao Central Sanitarium (MCS) compound in Pasobolong, Zamboanga City is targetted to start this June.

Other than the modular hospital to be operated by ZCMC with equipment supplied by DOH, a dormitory with 16 rooms with double decker beds will also be constructed by DPWH for medical personnel.

Google launches “Get The Facts” campaign

Google has launched the “Get The Facts” campaign as part of its ongoing commitment to helping build public trust in vaccines by promoting authoritative information across its products including Search.

Upon tapping or clicking “Get the facts” on the Search homepage, people will be redirected to organized information panels to instantly find vaccination updates, trusted news, links to global and local health authorities, and health information among others. People can also access the same information panels by searching for “covid vaccine” on the Google Search homepage.

Google is activating its other key platforms such as social media channels to lead more people to the vaccine information panels on Search.

Google is also part of the Department of Health’s #CheckTheFAQs campaign in partnership with other tech companies to encourage Filipinos to always fact-check information they see and share online.

Cebu Pacific vaccine transport continues

Cebu Pacific (CEB) safely transported last week COVID-19 vaccines to five provinces, with Iloilo as the new destination, aiding in the continuous distribution of vaccines across the country.

A total of 75,880 doses were delivered. The batch comprised of 28,880 for Tuguegarao; 2,000 for Tacloban on May 21; 10,000 each for Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro on May 24; 15,000 to Zamboanga on May 25,  and another 10,000 doses for Iloilo , May 27.

All vaccines were handled with utmost care, stored and transported in temperature-specific refrigerated containers to maintain potency and efficacy up until arrival at the”¯designated”¯stations.

Since March 2021, CEB has flown over 2.5 million vaccine doses from China to Manila, and over 1 million doses to now 13 provinces in the country.

INAEC to perform medevac services for Ascent, The Medical City

INAEC Aviation Corp. (INAEC) was chosen by Ascent Air Mobility platform to perform air medical evacuation (medevac) services for The Medical City.

Utilizing its fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, INAEC has extensive experience in providing air medevac services for emergency patients nationwide. INAEC’s previous air medevac cases included bringing divers with decompression sickness, victims of car accidents, mountain climbers in need of rescue, and individuals, even children, with life-threatening illnesses from the provinces to Metro Manila, where they could receive the needed medical attention.

With The Medical City-Ascent partnership, INAEC will carry patients as well as medical personnel, sensitive medical cargo, and fragile medical equipment, to and from any of The Medical City’s facilities throughout the country.

Through this initiative, INAEC can save patients of The Medical City up to 85 percent of their time compared to land transportation, working within a safe travel bubble from the main branch of The Medical City to its wider healthcare network.”

MDI receives global recognition

Local IT systems integrator Micro-D International Inc. (MDI) recently bagged multiple awards from local and multinational technology companies.

MDI received the Top Data Center Networking (DCN) Partner 2020 and the Highest Growth Partner 2020 awards from Dell Technologies; Advance Partner of the Year 2020 award from Red Hat; Partner of the Year 2020 award from FireEye; and Emerging Technology Partner of the Year 2020 award from Exclusive Networks.

MDI was also named as the Asean Partner of the Year 2020 by Talend; and Top Security Partner 2020, Top Data Center Partner 2020, and was given the Resiliency Award 2020 by Comstor.

MDI Novare chief executive officer Agnes Gervacio said the company will continue to harness hybrid clouds, DevOps, API, big data, and security, which are the pillars of digitalization, in the coming years.
