The Department  of  Health (DOH) has approved a higher suggested retail price (SRP) of a range of P8 to P12 on N88 or surgical masks.

DOH Secretary Francisco Duque in a radio interview over DZMM last Saturday said the approval comes upon the recommendation of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The current SRP price range is P1 to P8.

“The approval was made because of the supply problem… that’s the underlying reason.

There is a shortage and we cannot control the pricing on the local level,” Duque added.

This developed as the country’s lone surgical masks manufacturer has confirmed the delivery starting this week of some two million masks for redistribution to retail outlets. These will come in batches of 400,000 per week.

In the same radio program, Via Cataquis, vice president   for sales and marketing MedTecs international Corp. said the company last week   started the delivery of masks to Red Cross, the DTI and the DOH for their own use.

Cataquis said retail outlets given priority are Mercury Drug, South Star and The Generics Pharmacy based on the purchase orders of these retail outlets at standard price of P8 apiece.
