The healthcare information management segment of the information technology-business process management (IT-BPM) of the Philippines has been booking additional orders and continues to hire personnel amid the new coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

“Healthcare is the only growing industry amidst the pandemic. While other industries are laying off people, we are hiring and training them. We’ve learned through our member companies that additional orders are coming,” said

Rogelio Salazar Jr., president of the Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines (HIMAP) in a webinar co-organized by the Department of Trade and Industry and Philippine embassy in Washington DC.

Salazar said healthcare providers and payers and even pharmaceutical service providers in the Philippines have their hands full following the pandemic .

Salazar said 50 to 80 percent of the workforce of HIMAP members started doing work from home as early as two weeks following the implementation of quarantine protocols on March 16, while 80 percent of businesses attained on-site productivity levels within three to four weeks of operation and reaching as much as 90 percent productivity and quality.

The IT-BPM industry in general sees a a great opportunity to acquire a good fraction of outsourcing jobs globally. Some major companies have already disclosed their requirements, one of which would be needing 4,000 seats to be filled up before September.
