The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will release before the end of the week or early next week the price guide on  school supplies in time for the opening of classes on August 22, according to DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo.

Castelo also said the DTI is also in the final stages of its review of petitions for price  increases on some basic and prime commodities   which will be reflected in the soon-to-be-issued Suggest Retail Price Bulletin .

Castelo said not all of the petitions will be granted, adding the DTI based its review on the increase in the prices of imported raw  materials and distribution cost.

“We have received requests even before the May 2022 SRP bulletin. There will be a slight increase in prices for some and not all,” Castelo said.

She said petitions covered sardines, coffee, milk, Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal as well as as canned meats like corned beef and meat loaf.

On school supplies, Castelo said the Gabay Presyo will give a price range on the products like notebooks, pad paper, rulers among others depending on the variety, quality, volume and make.

She reminded that price freeze is in effect in Abra until September 26 with the declaration of a state of calamity in the province following the July 27 earthquake. – Irma Isip
