The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will give immediate financial relief to members and pensioners residing in four more areas in Metro Manila and Luzon as severe bad weather persists.
GSIS said on Thursday it will open additional emergency loan facilities in the coming days in other areas affected by tropical storm Crising and the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat).
For now, the new areas identified are Quezon City, Cavite, Pangasinan (Umingan) and Calumpit, Bulacan.
“This emergency loan is one way we can quickly respond to the needs of our members and pensioners affected by the recent calamities,” GSIS Officer-in-Charge Juliet M. Bautista said.
Eligible members and pensioners in these areas can apply for the emergency loan on these dates: until August 23, 2025 for Umingan Pangasinan and Calumpit, Bulacan; and until October 23, 2025 for Cavite and Quezon City.
GSIS expects more local government units will declare their respective areas an emergency area. It said it is prepared to
cover new areas in the next few days.
“This will help ensure that more members and pensioners in similarly affected locations can access emergency financial assistance,” it added.
Qualified members with existing emergency loans may borrow up to P40,000, while first-time borrowers may avail up to P20,000. The loan is payable in three years, with a low 6 percent annual interest and no processing fee, GSIS said.
To qualify, active members must be working or residing in the declared calamity area, be in active service and not on unpaid leave, have no pending administrative or legal case, and have paid at least six monthly premiums, the agency added.
Members availing of the facility must also have a net take-home pay of at least P5,000. “Old-age and disability pensioners may also apply, provided their net monthly pension after loan amortization is at least 25 percent of their gross pension,” GSIS said.
Emergency loan applications can be done through the GSIS Touch mobile app. Besides GSIS, the Social Security System and Pag-IBIG Fund are also offering assistance.
As of July 24, the National Risk Disaster Reduction and Management Council has placed 40 cities and municipalities under a state of calamity due to the three tropical storms Crising, Dante and Emong, and the habagat.
