Govt to sustain efforts to create more jobs — Palace

Malacanang yesterday vowed to sustain, if not strengthen, efforts to promote and generate more quality jobs in the country. The employment rate for February rose to 96.2 percent from 95.7 percent in January.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a briefing in Malacanang the improved employment rate means the government took good steps to alleviate poverty, especially as some people sometimes experience difficulty in landing a job, which, in turn, could make it difficult for them to earn an income for their family.

Castro said that one of these programs is the job fairs for the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

“Itutuloy-tuloy po natin iyan dahil mayroon din naman po tayong programa para sa mga hiring ng mga employees, ng ating mga kababayan especially mayroon pong programa para po doon sa mga 4Ps beneficiaries na makakuha ng on-the-spot hiring (we would continue those because we have programs such as the hiring of employees, the programs for the hiring of 4Ps beneficiaries on-the-spot),” she said.

Since January, the national government has been conducting the “Trabaho at Serbisyong Pangkalusugan sa Bagong Pilipinas” job fair, mostly for 4Ps beneficiaries, in different parts of the country.

The Philippine Statistics Authority reported earlier on Tuesday the unemployment and underemployment rates dropped to 3.8 percent and 10.1 percent, respectively, in February from 4.3 percent and 13.3 percent in January.
