Govt, private sector tie-ups on tourism pushed

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday called for the continued partnership between the government and the private sector in promoting  tourism industry.

The President, in his speech at the Tourism Summit that was read by Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, recognized the significant contribution of the tourism sector to the  economy.

Marcos also acknowledged the role of the private sector in promoting Philippine destinations as well as in  generating revenues and employment.

He also reminded the private sector to always keep in mind the need to protect the environment and to utilize the resources with great prudence.

The President, meanwhile, acknowledged that the Department of Tourism (DOT) is on track to realizing its goal under the National Tourism Development Plan for 2023-2028 for a sustainable, resilient and competitive tourism industry.

Marcos said the DOT has been intensifying efforts to enhance tourism services  by implementing the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence program, among other efforts that attracted thousands of tourists.

In 2023, the Philippines welcomed  5.5 million tourists, which is 15 percent higher than the 4.8 million target for the year.  In the first four months of 2024 alone, DOT’s record showed more than two million tourist arrivals.
