Globe Telecom Inc. has upgraded its network to fourth generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) in Boracay, Pampanga and the rest of Laguna to improve its call, text and mobile data services in the areas.
“We really want to bolster further our 4G LTE presence in Visayas and Mindanao. Making our network fully 4G LTE in Boracay is a good start as we plan to do the same in more areas in the region. Our customers will start to notice a better mobile experience as the latest technology in mobile data becomes more accessible to them,” said Joel Agustin, Globe senior vice president for program delivery, Network Technical Group.
Aside from Boracay, Globe is fast-tracking the completion of its network modernization in Pampanga and in the three remaining towns of Laguna — Sta. Rosa, Calamba and Cabuyao — before the month ends.
To experience the improved services, Globe asked its subscribers to upgrade their subscriber identity module (SIM) to the 5G-ready and 4G LTE SIMs and use 4G LTE capable mobile devices.
Customers who wish to upgrade their mobile devices can also check all Globe stores to see the affordable and available 5G-ready 4G/LTE capable mobile devices.
Globe said its aggressive and sustained network builds and upgrades are showing enhanced overall customer data experience, as it emerged as the most improved in mobile average download speed across all technologies at 16.44 megabits per second (Mbps) in the fourth quarter of 2020, up 22 percent from 13.50 Mbps in the same period in 2019, based on Ookla data.
Globe has allocated bulk of its P70 billion capital expenditure this year for its network rollout, which includes aggressive cell site builds, upgrade of all its sites to 4G/LTE and expansion of the fiber-to-home service nationwide.
