Airfares are expected to further decline by June due lower fuel surcharge for the month, data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) showed.
In an advisory, Carmelo Arcilla, CAB executive director said passenger and cargo fuel surcharge will go down to Level 4 in June from this month’s Level 5 due to the continuing decline of jet fuel prices in the world market. This is the lowest level in 15 months.
A Level 4 fuel surcharge ranges from P117 to P342 for domestic flights and from P385.70 to P600 for international flights, depending on the distance.
The fuel surcharge by next month will be significantly lower than June last year which was at Level 7.
Arcilla said airlines that intend to collect the new fuel surcharge must file their application with its office on or before the effectivity date.
Local carriers Philippines Airlines, Cebu Pacific and AirAsia Philippines are optimistic about further boosting air travel with the lower fuel surcharge.
In a related development, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said it has successfully completed the power upgrade and corrective maintenance activity at the Philippine Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC) on May 3 and 17without causing any inconvenience to the riding public.
On May 3, the ATMC corrective maintenance was carried out between 2 to 4 a.m., focusing on the repair of the automatic voltage regulator. Subsequently, on May 17, during the same time frame, the uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) was replaced, and an upgrade of the Air Traffic Management System (ATMS) A/B power supply was executed. These critical measures were undertaken to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted operation of the Communications, Navigations, Surveillance /ATMS, responsible for managing and overseeing air traffic activities within the Philippine Flight Information Region.
