First Gen Corp. subsidiary FGEN LNG Corp. continues to accelerate the development of its planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Batangas after executing an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract and adding a fourth possible provider of a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU).
The company executed the EPC with McConnell Dowell Philippines (MCD) to modify an existing jetty and transform it to become a multi-purpose jetty as well as to build an adjunct onshore gas receiving facility.
“MCD has considerable experience in marine design and construction, including similar LNG projects and it is worth noting that MCD constructed the existing liquid fuel jetty in 1998 which it will now modify under the EPC contract. Following the execution of the EPC Contract, MCD has confirmed that it plans to engage First Balfour Inc. as a major subcontractor…,” said Jonathan Russell, First Gen executive vice president and chief commercial officer.
In a statement, Russel said construction of the project in Batangas may begin within this quarter as soon as the design and implementation of enhanced work and safety protocols required to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on construction personnel and the local community and other preparations are completed.
The company said it added Dynagas Ltd. alongside BW Gas Ltd., GasLog LNG Services Ltd. and Hoegh LNG Asia Pte Ltd. among the preferred tenderers for the charter of the FSRU.
