ERC approves final energy capacity prices for 4th green energy auction

THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the final green energy auction reserve (GEAR) prices for capacities eyed under the fourth round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA4).

Documents uploaded by the regulatory body over the weekend showed the ERC has approved GEAR prices of P5.68 per kilowatt hour (kWh) for rooftop solar, P4.4832 per kWh for ground mounted solar, P6.5258 per kWh for floating solar, P6.0859 per kWh for onshore wind and P5.4028 per kWh for solar equipped with battery energy storage system (BESS).

Under GEA, interested RE producers will compete for incentivized fixed power rates by offering prices that are lower or equal to prices set by the ERC.

GEA4 aims to attract bids for a total of 10,653 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy set for commercial operation from 2026 to 2029. This includes 9,553 MW from ground-mounted solar, roof-mounted solar, floating solar and onshore wind projects and a further 1,100 MW of solar capacity equipped with BESS.

In a separate message, the Department of Energy (DOE) said that actual auction of capacities to be included in GEA4 will be on Sept. 2, 2025, while validation of bids is set for Sept. 17, 2025.

Meanwhile, endorsement of winning bidders, as well as the signing of notices of award, will be made by the DOE Secretary by October this year.  The posting of the list of winning bidders is set for Oct. 22, 2025.

The agency earlier said that GEA4 “opens new avenues for project development across the archipelago, particularly in areas with limited available land,” especially with the inclusion of floating solar technology to push it “into the country’s mainstream renewable energy mix.”

“The implementation of GEA4 represents a major stride toward a more sustainable energy future for the Philippines,” the DOE said, adding that “this round aims to boost the RE share in the country’s energy mix, strengthen grid reliability, and ensure energy security.”
