The Department of  Public Works and Highway (DPWH) yesterday inaugurated the new NLEX Philippine Arena Interchange that will address the anticipated high traffic volume in the opening ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on Saturday.

NLEX Philippine Arena Interchange, the Ciudad de Victoria Interchange overpass bridge and bypass road in Bocaue, Bulacan will be used by the delegates as the main routes going to the 55,000-seater indoor stadium.

The NLEX Philippine Arena Interchange will also address the heavy traffic situation and queuing of vehicles entering the Bocaue interchange. This will reduce travel time to the town of Sta Maria, Bulacan from 50 minutes to 15 minutes via Ciudad de Victoria.

Mark Villar, DPWH secretary said the construction of the bypass road and bridge which started January this year was fast-tracked in time for the opening ceremony.

Initially, the section from Philippine Arena to the southbound side of NLEX will open on November 29, while the southbound section (from north of NLEX) going to the Philippine Arena will open on November 30 only for the opening ceremony to give way to the remaining works of the interchange project.

The new interchange aims to improve mobility and accessibility within the Bulacan road network particularly in Bocaue, Sta. Maria, Pandi, Norzagaray, Angat, and other nearby towns.

Ciudad de Victoria Interchange overpass Bridge and Bypass Road connecting the Manila North Road and Sta. Maria-Bocaue bypass road will serve as an alternate road to the heavily congested Governor F. Halili Road in Sta. Maria, Bulacan.

“The Philippine Arena Interchange is just one of our priority projects in Bulacan to help ease mounting traffic along Governor F. Halili road in Bocaue-Sta.Maria and address the usual heavy traffic situation at the Bocaue Interchange,” said Villar.
