Sixteen frontrunner offshore wind (OSW) projects with a total capacity of 16,652 megawatts (MW) will start generating clean energy by 2028, the Department of Energy (DOE) said.
OSW companies are committed to start building their facilities by 2027 at the latest and are able to produce electricity by 2028, the department said in a statement over the weekend.
By coordinating with the the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the Energy Department will help make the additional 16,652 MW a reality by facilitating the permits required by the companies involved in the projects.
The biggest output capacity belongs to Domhain Earth Corp.’s 3,100 MW Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro and Antique, while Buhawind Energy Northern Luzon Corp. is committed to produce up to 2,000 MW in offshore of Ilocos Norte, and Domhain Earth’s Calatagan projects in Batangas and Occidental Mindoro is expected to generate 1,830 MW.
Domhain Earth is also building a 1,600 MW wind facility in offshore areas of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan, and another 1,500 MW in offshore areas Bataan, Cavite and Batangas.
Also on the Energy department’s OSW list is ACX3 Capital Holdings Inc., which will build an offshore wind farm in Quezon Province, capable of generating up to 275 MW and another 475 MW in the same province, and 500 MW in offshore Camarines Sur.
CINMF (PH) Corp. has three offshore wind farms in the pipeline, including 1,000 MW in Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur, 650 MW in Northern Samar, and 350 MW in Pangasinan and La Union.
Meanwhile, Vind Energy Corp. has two projects., including 994 MW in Cavite and 728 MW in Guimaras.
Three other offshore wind projects are Ivisan Windkraft Corp.’s 450 MW in Bataan and Cavite, Jet Stream Windkraft Corp.’s 600 MW in Negros Occidental and Iloilo, and Triconti Southwind Corp.’s 600 MW in Negros Occidental.
Earlier, DOE said the 5th round of Green Energy Auction will offer offshore wind projects by the third quarter of 2025.
Energy Undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara has said in an earlier briefing the department is optimistic with the country’s offshore wind developments especially since the PPA is keen on building ports for these frontrunners projects.
“Our investors are assured, and therefore, they are keen in participating in the auction in the third quarter of this year,” Guevara said.
Latest data from the DOE, showed the total installed capacity of wind projects in the country at 427 MW equivalent to 1.4 percent of the country’s entire 29,697 MW of installed capacity as of end-November last year.
