Third telecom player DITO Telecommunity Corp. yesterday said it has signed two deals with Lopez-owned Sky Cable Corp. and LCS Holdings Inc. of businessman Luis “Chavit” Singson for its network buildout in preparation for commercial rollout by next year.

Adel Tamano, DITO chief administrative officer, said the company signed the memorandum of agreement with LCS Holdings for the lease of common towers the LCS Group will be putting up in key areas of the country.

DITO and LCS Group did not disclose the location and the number of towers but the latter assured the towers will be open to other telcos interested to co-locate at strategic sites.

DITO also signed a deal with Sky Cable Corp. a unit of ABS-CBN Corp. for the utilization of the unused fiber-optic cables of Sky Cable within Metro Manila.

“These two deals allow DITO to tap reliable local partners and their existing telecommunication infrastructure assets to support our network rollout, without having to build everything from scratch; done to ensure that we soon deliver on our promise of faster, more affordable, and most importantly secure internet connectivity for our countrymen,” said Tamano.

DITO plans to start the commercial operation of its mobile services by second quarter of 2020.

The company has committed to invest P279 billion ($5.4 billion) over the next five years to cover 37 percent of the national populations in initial year and gradually increasing its coverage to 84 percent of the population in fifth year of operation.

The company also committed to deliver a minimum of internet speed of 27 megabits per second on the first year and 50 mpbs in succeeding four years.

DITO formerly known as Mindanao Islamic Telephone Company, Inc. (MISLATEL) has obtained Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity by the National Telecommunications Commission July this year.
