The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has cited the  contribution of the die and mold industry in the manufacturing capabilities of ecozone locators particularly in automotive and consumer electronics.

PEZA said as of May, it has registered 180 projects in the die and mold sector, generating P19.341 billion in investments or 35 percent of the P54.72 billion investments to date. The die and mold sector’s investments also  created 40,996 direct jobs.

“The die and mold industry is regarded as the backbone of manufacturing, micro, small and medium enterprise development and industrialization. Not only are these basic materials critical to production-scale manufacturing, but also in fostering innovation particularly in larger industries that rely on plastics and metals as raw materials for the production of finished goods and for various industry applications,” PEZA said.

PEZA added the design and manufacture of dies and molds represent a significant link in the entire production chain because nearly all mass-produced discrete parts are formed using processes that employ dies and molds.

The Philippines in particular is a reliable source of high-quality molds and dies, catering to both domestic and international markets.

“Ecozone locators, particularly those in the semiconductor-electronics, automotive and aerospace sectors benefit much from the integration of local die and mold providers into the ecozone value chain,” PEZA said.

Dies and moulds are critical to the operations of the  EMS/SMS and automotive enterprises in PEZA which account for 65 percent of the country’s goods  exports.

In promoting the competitiveness of the Philippine die and mold industry, PEZA has collaborated with  various government agencies and the Philippine Die and Mold Association (PDMA) on the establishment of the Mold and Die Technology Support Center (MTSC) at  the  Cavite Economic Zone, which seeks to train thousands of Filipino workers on CNC machining, precision tooling, mold designing, and production of various dies and molds.

PEZA will highlight the world class ecozone products/activities of the die and mold industry at the 11th year staging of the Philippine Die & Mold Machineries & Equipment Exhibition  on August 28 to 31 at the World Trade Center.
