The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) yesterday launched the Chief Information Officer (CIO) council as part of the digital transformation across the national government agencies (NGA) and local government units (LGU).
DICT hosted the first-ever CIO Conference in Metro Manila, bringing together CIOs from various NGAs, government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCC) and state universities and colleges.
The event will feature the launch of the CIO council, chaired by DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, and the introduction of eGovAI through the eGovPH App.
When the DICT was created in 2016, the law provided for the creation of the CIO council which is envisioned to be a council of CIOs from the national government, LGUs and GOCCs, said Uy during the conference.
“This CIO council puts together all the different CIOs into one. We are consolidating all the different government agencies making sure they collaborate and share information and follow the same standard on data governance, data security and privacy and many others,” Uy said.
It will streamline the database of all government agencies and LGUs, thus optimizing resources, he added.
In case of a cyberattack, it allows for easier collaboration if a government agency’s data is compromised, enabling faster response time, said Uy.
The DICT also said the conference marks a significant step toward a fully digitized Philippines, fostering innovation, collaboration and digital transformation across the government.
Recently, DICT announced the Philippines’ unprecedented climb in the 2024 United Nations e-Participation Index (EPI), a milestone credited to the transformative eGovernment platforms.
