The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is readying a national housing strategic plan that will serve as a blueprint for the industry over the next 20 years.
The DHSUD yesterday marked its second anniversary with a commitment to sustain the gains achieved the past two years, including the rollout of a comprehensive development plan for the housing and urban development sector.
The DHSUD and its key shelter agencies produced and financed a total of 115,132 housing units throughout the country in 2020 despite the pandemic. The National Housing Authority accounted for 24,139 units; the Home Development Mutual Fund, 75,582 units; the Social Housing Finance Corp., 13,256 units while the National Home Mortgage Finance Corp. took out 2,155 units of housing loan receivables from its partner developers.
Other key strategies for 2021 include the improvement of its systems and processes, data-driven policies, programs and processes, capacity- building of human resources, engagement with suppliers and stakeholders.
DHSUD is poised to form National Human Settlements and Urban Development Coordinating Committee and regional human settlements and urban development coordinating committees to ensures the delivery of priority housing projects.
In 2020, DHSUD continued to show resiliency and delivered public service benefiting more than 5.5 million members.
The agency intends to further intensify engagements with all housing stakeholders, especially encouraging them to take a more proactive approach in coordinating with local government units in the formulation of land use, development, and shelter plans.
In his message, DHSUD Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario said despite the effects of the pandemic, “I remain hopeful and optimistic because I now have the full complement of undersecretaries and assistant secretaries to help steer the organization to much greater heights.” – Irma Isip
