About 432 aviation industry leaders from the Asia-Pacific region are in Cebu City to discuss issues on safety and security.
The annual gathering of aviation industry leaders on October 14 to 18 focuses on key issues such as safety and security, with a particular focus on reducing carbon emissions in line with this year’s Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) theme of resiliency, sustainability and inclusivity.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista in his speech underscored the significance of the 59th Conference of DGCA as a crucial platform for addressing carbon emissions in aviation and advancing the development of the country’s aviation industry.
“Safety is always a major topic for discussion. On sustainability, we will look at best practices that will allow us to contribute to the reduction of carbon emission. We are also focusing on capacity building to increase the capability of directors-general,” Bautista told reporters.
In support of global sustainability efforts, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines director-general Capt. Manuel Antonio Tamayo shared that nearly 15,000 trees have been planted across the country, and the initiative continues to support the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Long-Term Aspirational Goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The DGCA conference serves as an important forum for the exchange of ideas and best practices among aviation leaders, and its outcomes are expected to contribute significantly to the future of aviation in the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region.
