The national government’s total debt payments in the first 11 months of the year amounted to P991.05 billion, data released by the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) showed.
According to the latest cash operations report, the national government’s debt payments in January to November is 12.61 percent lower than the P1.13 trillion paid out in the same period the prior year.
Amortization declined by 27.35 percent to P531.8 billion from the P731.98 billion paid out in the same period the previous year.
Of the total principal payments made during the period, P409.04 billion was used to pay local lenders while P122.78 billion was spent to settle foreign obligations.
Meanwhile, interest payments as of November totaled to P459.25 billion, 14.21 percent higher than the P402.11 billion paid out as of the same period the previous year.
Of the said amount, P347.2 billion was paid to domestic creditors while P112.05 billion was for international debt.
In November alone, debt payments amounted to P61.39 billion, 24.43 percent lower than the year ago level of P81.24 billion.
Amortization amounted to P35.3 billion while interest payments totaled to P26.09 billion.
Earlier, the BTr reported that the national government’s gross borrowings as of end-November stood at P2.1 trillion.
The government’s gross borrowings in January to November declined by 24.46 percent versus the year ago level of P2.78 trillion.
Gross domestic borrowings for the period accounted for the bigger chunk amounting to P1.61 trillion, down 28.4 percent from the year ago level of P2.25 trillion.
Gross external borrowings likewise declined by 6.66 percent to P493.61 billion from P528.81 billion the prior year.
