The Department of Budget and Management will be submitting the proposed 2023 national budget to Congress on Monday, the first under the Marcos Jr. administration’s term.

In a video message during the 2022 Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines-San Miguel Corp. Economic Forum held in Manila yesterday, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said the proposed budget for next year has been presented to the President last month.

“(We) have presented the administration’s first National Expenditure Program amounting to P5.268 trillion to President Marcos Jr. on July 28 and we are gearing up for its submission to the 19th Congress on Monday, August 22,” Pangandaman said.

“Indeed, it was not easy as our gains continue to be undermined by various inflationary pressures and external conflicts, but this only strengthens our resolve to ensure that the government’s programs, activities and projects will reach every Filipino and improve their quality of life amid the pandemic, throughout recovery and beyond,” she added.

The P5.268 trillion proposed budget is equivalent to 22.1 percent of the country’s gross domestic product.

Pangandaman said the 2023 national budget is anchored on the agenda for prosperity, economic transformation and towards inclusivity and sustainability. – Angela Celis
