Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) maintenance provider Sumitomo Corp-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries-TES Philippines was scheduled to start yesterday the limited deployment of one of the 48 Dalian trains on the system.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said one Dalian train set equivalent to three train coaches was set to hit the tracks of MRT-3 mainline starting yesterday, during evening off-peak hours, from 8:30 p.m.to 10:30 p.m.
This is after MRT-3’s Japanese maintenance provider signed a consent that one train set will be deployed for an initial trial period lasting up to when the maintenance provider begins its rail replacement works in November.
“The limited deployment of the Dalian Trains that will begin today (October 15) is part of Sumitomo’s study of the Dalian rains, for them to understand the operations and maintenance requirements of the trains. After Sumitomo’s study and when the rehabilitated MRT-3 System is already able to run the trains regularly, a supplemental maintenance fee will be discussed with Sumitomo,” the DOTr said.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency has also given its concurrence to the Dalian trains Agreement with Sumitomo.
