DA seeks P1B  supplemental budget

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) is seeking at least P1 billion in a supplemental budget to support programs in ensuring food security and stable prices in the next two months.

DA Secretary William Dar said in a letter to Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea dated March 21 the additional funds will help sustain the implementation of support system, especially in areas where the enhanced community quarantine is strictly enforced.

Dar said bulk of the budget will be spent to upscale the “Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita” in Metro Manila.

Breakdown is as follows: P325 million for the Kadiwa project and other market logistics support to the food value chain system; P250 million for the extensive promotion of urban agriculture; P200 million for production support in the form of seeds and inputs; P150 million for the support of frontline agriculture workers; and P75 million to strengthen its suggested retail price monitoring and enforcement.
