The Department of Agriculture (DA) announced it has lifted the temporary ban on poultry products from the US states of Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The lifting of the ban was made official under DA Memorandum Order 32, series of 2025, which was signed by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. on June 27, but was only made public on Monday, June 30.
The restrictions were lifted after authorities in the six American states provided evidence that the bird flu cases in their jurisdictions were already contained, the DA said in a statement on Monday.
Based on the official report of the US veterinary authorities in the World Organization for Animal Health, all reported cases of high pathogenicity avian influenza in the six US states have ended with a resolved status, and there were no additional outbreaks after June 9, 2025, the DA added.
Data from the Bureau of Animal Industry showed the US exported to the Philippines 43,362,734 kilograms of chicken from January to April in 2025, equivalent to 28.1 percent of the country’s total chicken imports in the same period, at 154,540,366 kg.
Based on the DA’s monitoring of public markets in the National Capital Region, as of June 26, prices of whole dressed chicken per kilo ranged from P200 to P260.
