Based on the preliminary report from the BOC-financial service, 10 of the 17 collection districts surpassed their February collection targets, namely, the ports of Legaspi, Tacloban, Cagayan De Oro, Subic, Batangas, Iloilo, Clark, Davao, Manila and the Manila International Container Port (MICP).

Last January, the bureau also surpassed its monthly revenue collection target by 7.4 percent.

“The bureau continues to prove the intensified collective efforts of all ports this year, not to mention, the improvement of volume of importation, as well as the government’s effort in ensuring unhampered movement of goods while maintaining border security and trade facilitation,” the BOC said.

Meanwhile, the BOC said in a separate statement the MICP has seized P60 million worth of smuggled cigarettes last February 26.

The apprehended shipments came from China and were initially declared to contain 1,134 cartons of Zhong Su brand PE stretch film and 74 packages of lowering device packing equipment, respectively.

However, the BOC said upon physical examination, these were found to contain 2,000 master cases of cigarettes with brands of Fortune, Mighty and Marvel.

A warrant of seizure and detention has been issued against the shipment and further investigation is underway against the consignees for the possible filing of charges, the BOC said.
