The Bureau of Customs (BOC) surpassed its collection goal for January by 1.7 percent, the agency said on Thursday.
Preliminary figures by the bureau showed it generated revenue of P79.343 billion in January 2025, exceeding its target of P78.015 billion by P1.328 billion.
The BOC said in a statement its latest collection also reflected an 8.1-percent increase year-on-year, or P5.947 billion more than the P73.397 billion collected in January 2024.
Customs commissioner Bienvenido Rubio in the same statement reaffirmed the BOC’s commitment to advancing efficiency and collection performance. “Our priority is to sustain revenue growth while ensuring seamless trade and robust border protection,” the BOC head said.
The bureau is tasked to collect P1.064 trillion this year, as shown in the government’s Budget of Expenditures and Sources of Financing for 2025.
On Thursday last week, the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) said the BOC′s total collections in 2024 reached P916.7 billion, up 3.79 percent from the 2023 level of P883.2 billion.
The BTr said the increase is attributable to the growth across duties, value-added tax, and excise collections, among the effects of the bureau’s strengthened digitization, inspection, and border protection efforts implemented during the year.
However, the BOC outturn for 2024 fell short of the P939.7 billion revised full-year program by 2.45 percent. This, the BTr said, was due to reduced tariffs on rice and selected electric vehicles, as well as the extension of a lower tariff on meat products under Executive Order 50.
