PCX Markets diverts 100M kg of plastic waste from entering nature

A recycling project partner in the Philippines processes plastic bottles into flakes that other companies can use in new products.

 PCX Markets  which helps fund plastic pollution cleanup and waste management infrastructure worldwide, announced that it has financed the diversion of 100 million kilograms of mixed plastic waste from nature to date. 

That is equivalent to 6.6 billion 15 gram plastic bottles, and enough to circle the earth 25 times. 

This marks a 34-percent rise in total impact delivered since the start of the year, thanks to growing demand from brands that want to support downstream cleanup efforts and help fund infrastructure development to complement upstream reduction strategies.

PCX Markets has also added 10 collection, recycling and upcycling projects, including several from new markets such as Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cambodia, Malaysia and Australia, to its marketplace since the start of the year.  The marketplace now offers audited, verified credits issued by 21 project partners for 34 projects that divert and responsibly process plastic waste in 11 markets worldwide. That represents a 29 percent increase in projects since December 2023.   

PCX’s marketplace currently offers 250 million kilograms of cleanup and processing capacity from project partners which meet the world’s most stringent plastic credit standards, making it a global market leader.

Maynilad desludging services 

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc.  is offering septic tank cleaning services to its residential and semi-business customers this September in select parts of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Manila, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon City, Valenzuela, and Cavite Province at no extra cost.

Customers residing in Barangay 1, 10, 81, 82, 84 to 88, 90 to 95, 97 to 99, 101 to 103, 105, 106, 108 to110, 112 to 115, 117 to 131, in Caloocan; Brgy. Pamplona Uno and Tres, Panapaan 3, Pulang Lupa Uno, Pulang Lupa Dos, and Talon 3 in Las Piñas; Brgy. Catmon, Maysilo, Niugan,  Santolan, Tonsuya, and Tugatog in Malabon; Brgy. Putatan and Sucat in Muntinlupa; Brgy. Bagumbayan North, Bangculasi, Daang-hari, Merville, San Rafael Village, Sipac-Almacen, Navotas East and West, and Tanza in Navotas; Brgy. Don Bosco and San Martin De Porres in Parañaque; Brgy. Batasan Hills, Bagong Silangan, Capri, Commonwealth, Gulod, Holy Spirit, and San Agustin in Quezon City; and Brgy. Ka-Palawan Awards

The Palawan Group of Companies announced the launch of the Global Ka-Palawan Awards. 

This initiative celebrates the remarkable stories and the unwavering commitment of our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) toward building a better life and a brighter future for themselves and their families. 

The Global Ka-Palawan Awards Nominees can be male or female. They also must have worked abroad for at least one year in any profession, and have a beneficiary claiming their remittance through PPS-PEPP or the PalawanPay app.

The nomination period runs from July 10 to October. Ten grand winners will each be awarded P100,000 , and 20 finalists will receive a consolation prize of P10,000 each.

OFWs/participants may submit their entries via  Facebook or though PPS-PEPP branches nationwide.

UERM Medical Center, AC Health partnership 

The UERM Medical Center and Ayala Healthcare Holdings Inc. (AC Health) have entered a partnership, marking a significant step in leveraging the strengths of both institutions to improve healthcare accessibility and quality in the country.

The signing ceremony was joined by UERM Medical Center vice chairman of the Board & COO Wilson Young, president & chief academic officer Dr. Norbert Lingling  Uy, and VP for Hospital Services & chief medical officer Dr. Maribeth  de Los Santos. Representing Healthway president & COO Jaime Ysmael, CFO Ruby P. Chiong, and chief strategy & business development officer Margaret Bengzon. 

The partnership will introduce several initiatives aimed at both academic and hospital sectors. These include funding of scholarship programs by AC Health, including review classes for deserving students of UERM Medical Center’s Nursing and Medical Technology programs. Additionally, students will gain valuable hands-on experience within AC Health’s expansive network of hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies.  

The partnership also focuses on enhancing professional development for medical staff and post-graduate students whereby graduates will have access to career opportunities across AC Health’s network. Collaborative research projects will also be undertaken, concentrating on clinical, public health, and health policy issues. 

Mercato Centrale expansion

Mercato Centrale has renewed its lease with Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC) ensuring the continued operation of the  outdoor food market at Bridgetown Destination Estates on the border of Pasig and Quezon City.

Mercato Centrale also announced new partnerships aimed at enhancing the food market’s offerings. A collaboration with Okane Kitchen, a company specializing in back-end kitchen operations for SMEs, will introduce new food concepts to Mercato Centrale’s lineup.

Shopee  online donation drive

Empowering local talent

Aboitiz InfraCapital Economic Estates, in collaboration with Aboitiz Construction, the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Tarlac City, and local government units from Barangays Lourdes, Balete, Cutcut II, and Asturias,  launched a Grand Recruitment Day in August. This landmark event attracted nearly 400 job seekers. 

Seventeen applicants were hired on the spot to join the expanding workforce at TARI Estate, which now employs 150 skilled local talents. 

The event provided a comprehensive one-stop-shop experience for applicants, enabling them to fulfill pre-employment requirements with key government agencies such as PAG-IBIG, PhilHealth, and SSS, and undergo health screenings at an accredited diagnostic center.
