Coins.ph backs AngelNet Summit
Coins.ph together with the other private stakeholders from the tech industry showed support for the Philippine National Police’s AngelNet Summit 2024 held last April 12.
The “AngelNet” Internet Child Protection Program is a specialized Task Force that addresses online abuse and promotes internet safety to shield children from cyber harm. It has bolstered relationships with the AngelNet Network and assisted PNP-ACG in gaining children’s trust so they may report internet threats.
This year’s AngelNet Summit focused on the power of cooperation in maintaining cyberspace free from harassment, abuse, and violence with the theme of “Siguradong Protektado: Angel Network and the Cybersquad, Magkasama sa Online Kaligtasan.”
“Coins.ph extends our gratitude to the PNP for their continuous service. We will continue supporting the endeavors of PNP and other government agencies in their efforts to preserve our cyberspace free from harassment, abuse, and violence.” said Robert De Guzman, head of Legal and Governance, Risk, and Compliance at Coins.ph.
“As part of our advocacy, we lead several initiatives and mechanisms to ensure our users’ security and protection against various online risks. Again, we stand united with the PNP in the battle against cybercrime, striving to make the digital space a safer place for all young people,” De Guzman added.
Maynilad donates rainwater harvesting facilities
West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is donating rainwater harvesting facilities to several local government units so that communities can harness rainwater as an alternate source of water for non-domestic use.
Maynilad has turned over six units of 1,500-liter-capacity rainwater harvesting facilities to the cities of Malabon, Manila, and Pasay in Metro Manila; Bacoor in Cavite, and the municipalities of Teresa and Morong in Rizal.
The donation is in line with Maynilad’s effort to empower local communities in arming themselves against the possible impact of El Niño on water supply availability. Harvested rainwater, when stored properly through these facilities, can be utilized for non-potable purposes, such as watering plants and flushing toilets.
By drawing water from this alternate source, customers can help to minimize withdrawals from the distribution system, enabling Maynilad to better manage network pressure and meet water requirements especially during peak demand hours.
“This is a sustainable solution during times of increased water demand. By harnessing rainwater, we are not just conserving resources but ensuring communities have access to water, even during challenging seasons like El Niño,” said Maynilad COO Randolph Estrellado.
To fully utilize the collected rainwater, Maynilad is also installing vertical garden frames along with the donated rainwater harvesting facilities so that the recipient communities can also grow vegetables. The company conducts workshops to equip the vertical garden beneficiaries with basic knowledge on urban gardening.

Forest Foundation, Canada drive climate adaptation efforts
The Philippines and Canada recently unveiled a new climate change adaptation program that leverages nature to minimize climate impacts.
The Philippines-Canada Partnership on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Climate Adaptation (PCP4NbS), an initiative led by Forest Foundation Philippines in partnership with the Embassy of Canada, seeks to enhance the climate resilience of communities, empower women, and ensure that the strategies implemented benefit natural resources and promote healthy ecosystems.
PCP4NbS will pilot good practices on nature-based solutions (NbS) in the Philippines by improving the knowledge base for evidence-based decision making, creating platforms for learning exchange and capacity enhancement, and conducting research on the nexus between biodiversity, gender, and climate adaptation. The program will also develop learning modules and implement gender-responsive, community-based NbS, and co-create policy recommendations to mainstream NbS for climate adaptation. These solutions not only address climate challenges but also provide valuable ecological services.
PCP4NbS partners come together for a watering ceremony, nurturing the growth of nature-based solutions in the Philippines. The choice of the banaba tree, a symbol of adaptability, reflects the strength of the partnership as it addresses climate change impacts.
