Women deprived of liberty undergo e-commerce training

A CIW staff member applies their learnings on basic mobile photography during the PLDT Smart eBizNovation workshop.

PLDT and Smart Communications Inc., in collaboration with Huawei Philippines, have conducted their eBizNovation digital upskilling session for officers and staff members of the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW).

The participants learned basic skills on digital marketing, social media, content creation, and mobile photography, which they could use to help sell online the arts and crafts made by persons deprived of liberty (PDL) at the CIW.

The activity is part of PLDT and Smart’s support for the Department of Justice’s Project ARTE (Arts, Crafts, and E-Commerce) program, which seeks to empower female PDLs with entrepreneurial knowledge that can help open up livelihood opportunities for them when they rejoin society.

I commend PLDT, Smart, Huawei, and CIW for their commitment to providing female PDLs with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital landscape,” said DOJ Undersecretary Atty. Margarita Gutierrez, who leads the Project ARTE program.

PLDT and Smart, through the eBizNovation program, help micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), farmers, and cooperatives enhance their financial and market access, develop their skills, and adapt to tech innovations. The program provides access to technology and upskilling trainings, and helps onboard beneficiaries to e-commerce platforms.

Cargill’s Agri-Sagana project named Outstanding CSR project

Cargill and ASSIST representatives receive the Medal of Recognition for the Agri-Sagana project.

Cargill was honored for their Outstanding CSR Project at the 2024 CSR Expo, hosted by the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF) on July 5 at the Glorietta Activity Center.

The Agri-Sagana Project received the prestigious Medal of Recognition under the Enterprise and Livelihoods Development category.

The CSR Guild Awards, a flagship program of the LCF, celebrates organizations for outstanding CSR contributions and practices. Cargill’s recognition underscores its commitment to building resilient communities and contributing to food security around the world, including the Philippines.

The Agri-Sagana Project, meaning “bountiful,” aims to upskill 15,000 farmers and empower 15 corn cooperatives to engage in corn consolidation and trading. Additionally, five of the cooperatives’ post-harvest facilities have begun transitioning their operations from oil power to solar power, promoting sustainability. As a result of ongoing accreditation and supplier certification, market access for corn in Region II has expanded, leading to increased income for the registered cooperatives and corn farmers by 10 percent and 20 percent, respectively.

In addition to the Medal of Recognition, Cargill’s RISE Coco Project, in partnership with CARE Philippines, was named a finalist under the Disaster Resilience category, acknowledging its role in rehabilitating coconut farming livelihoods in Bohol.
