PLDT, Smart bag nominations at HR Excellence Awards
PLDT Inc. and its wireless unit Smart Communications Inc. have been shortlisted at the prestigious HR Excellence Awards–the annual program that celebrates exceptional accomplishments and innovations within the dynamic landscape of human resources management in the Philippines.
PLDT and Smart were nominated under Excellence in CSR Strategy category, for its PLDT and Smart Communities program, which highlights the role of inclusive technology and employee engagement, in the areas of digital wellness, disaster resilience, education, and livelihood to help improve the lives and livelihood of Filipinos.
The group was also shortlisted under the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion category, which recognizes an organization’s effective implementation of programs and strategies that help a safe and inclusive work environment.
PLDT and Smart also bagged a nomination under the Excellence in Learning and Development category which recognizes an organization’s effective and innovative implementation of training and development programs.
Boasting of 40 meticulously curated categories, the HR Excellence Awards continues to be the definitive gathering point for HR luminaries and industry visionaries. Winners will be announced during an awards gala dinner to be held on August 16, 2024 at the Shangri-La The Fort, Manila.
QBE adopts second school in Cebu
As QBE’s second adopted school in Cebu, Zapatera Elementary School was assisted by the company in the construction of its feeding room. It also received an additional P2.5 million donation for the construction of its innovation room, purchase of school supplies, and daily feeding program for undernourished students.
The school is home to 2,804 students and 86 teaching staff.

QBE’s adopt a school program is done in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress. Aside from Zapatero Elementary School, QBE has adopted and been supporting R.P. Cruz Senior Elementary School in Manila and Bagong Lipunan Elementary School in Cebu. QBE is a global insurance firm headquartered in Sydney with global shared services centers operating from Manila and Cebu.
Converge unveils no contract FiberX Plans

Drive in Style with a P200K promo
Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) is offering limited deals from August 1 to 31under the ‘Drive in Style’ campaign.
Discounts of P200,000 and P150,000 are up for grabs for the Civic V and CR-V V, respectively.
While the The Civic V variant retails at P1,583,000, a P200,000 discount is available this month. A 15-percent special all-in down payment can be made at P10,000, 20 percent at P16,000, and a low monthly amortization of P29,263.
The All-New CR-V V variant is now available for a P80,000 discount when making a P134,000 or 20 percent special all-in down payment.
For the BR-V 1.5 S CVT, a special 10 percent all-in down payment is at only PHP 10,000.

Optum Ph reinforces continuing education programs
Optum Philippines, a leading technology and data-enabled care delivery company, has launched a series of programs aimed to help address the nursing crunch.
To help ease this burden on nurses, Optum Philippines initiated the RN Ready Plus program to provide participants with free, self-paced classes to help improve clinical domain knowledge.
The program aims to provide participants with easy access to additional clinical educational courses and materials that can be used by nurses, nursing graduates, and nursing students to further their knowledge in the field.
To expand the initiative further is the recently launched Optum Health Education Global online learning platform, designed to help strengthen the global health care workforce by sharing Optum expertise and providing interprofessional continuing education.
Through the program, Optum hopes to maximize its resources by making them available to partner schools, training centers, and health care facilities, to improve the quality of local clinical education, upskilling health care practitioners to become globally competent, and ultimately to reduce the costs of keeping clinical professional licenses by providing free, regularly updated, and accredited courses to increase talent sustainability, retention, and employment.
Aboitiz Foundation awards scholarships
Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Aboitiz Group, welcomed 19 talented individuals to its Aboitiz Future Leaders scholarship program.
These scholars will study in five universities in the National Capital Region (NCR) and are amongst 123 new Aboitiz scholars across the Philippines. This scholarship is designed to empower the next generation of leaders with education and opportunities throughout the country.
Out of the 19 new scholars, four are enrolled in Ateneo De Manila University, Mapua University, De La Salle University, and University of Sto Tomas while 15 have been accepted in the University of the Philippines Diliman. The interest of these scholars are in engineering, information technology, and management, reflecting the foundation’s commitment to fostering talent focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) courses.
SBFI’s mentoring program
Twenty-nine school principals from across the country completed the second year of Security Bank Foundation, Inc.’s (SBFI) Mentoring Future Leaders for Nation-Building program, conducted in partnership with the Ateneo Center for Educational Development.
The in-person training session was held at the Xavier School Nuvali in Calamba, Laguna on July 2-5, 2024.
During the training, titled “Transforming the School,” the principals were taught self-leadership, self-awareness, and how to use a growth mindset when interacting with students, parents, and faculty. There were also problem-solving workshops for the principals to design solutions for common school issues. The session was led by trainer Zhihan Lee, founder of Bagosphere–a skill development academy that has trained over 10,000 individuals and received multiple international accolades for its educational programs.
The principals came up with a number of solutions such as a special coaching, mentoring, and resource-sharing platform for teachers, and a dedicated space to drive impactful collaboration among teachers.
